Tournaments & Events

NWT Squash members participate in a number of tournaments and events throughout the year. The following lists those tournaments and events from the 2010-2011 season. Please note, not all of these events are sanctioned by Squash NWT.


  • NWT Territorial Squash Championships We are very excited to announce this year’s upcoming NWT Territorial Squash Championships. Held in Yellowknife at the Racquet Club, this is the NWT’s premier squash tournament.
  • 2015 NWT Territorial Squash Championships Sponsored by Roy’s Audio Visual, NWT Squash and the Racquet Club (RC), the Territorials is a premier event attracting players from all over the NWT as well as the Yukon and Alberta.
  • Canada Winter Games 2015 NWT will be represented by a boys and a girls team and the Canada Winter Games next week. Singles matches start Sunday and teams on Monday. On the boys’ side, NWT will be represented by James Huvenaars, Jeremie Kalgutkar, Stephen Messier and Cace Heffernan. For the girls, NWT will be represented by Simone Hipfner, Jada Hawkins ...
  • Jesters 2014 This Thursday, six of our juniors will be heading down to Calgary to compete in the 2014 Jesters tournament held this year at the Winter Club. Stephen, Seth, Cace, Delaney and Simone will all be competing in the main draw while India is competing for her first time in a tournament outside of Yellowknife.  The ...

  • Oktober Dopplezimmer Doubles tournament at the Yellowknife Racquet Club. Contact Ozzie for more information or call 920-2224.
  • Western Beats McMaster Yellowknife’s own, Devin Hinchey participated on the winning team for the Men’s Team Championships this past weekend playing for Western University beating out McMaster University 6-1. Go NWT Squash Juniors!

  • Men’s Team Finish 5th The NWT’s men’s team placed 5th at the Canadian Men’s Teams Championships in Winnipeg, Manitoba. Ozzie Vallejos, Ben Ladell and Devin Hinchey played fantastic squash to finish with the best result ever seen by a NWT team. The final match was played against host team, Manitoba.   • NWT Squash Charter Court of Excellence The Squash NWT Charter Court of Excellence was formally opened Friday May 8th 2015, immediately before the finals of the Racquet Club’s Club Championships.
  • Barb Cooper, Level 5 Squash Coach, Visits Yellowknife From Friday October 17 to Sunday the 19, Barb Cooper, Canada’s only level 5 squash coach, visited Yellowknife to give coach and player training sessions at the Yellowknife Racquet Club. Her visit also included evaluations for the Racquet Club’s own squash pro, Ozzie Vallejos, towards the final steps in his level 3 NCCP coach training. It ...
  • Introduction to Coaching During this past Thanksgiving weekend (Oct 10 to 13, 2013), Brooke Harker, James Huvenaars and Jeff Hipfner participated in the Squash Introduction to Competition course facilitated by Spider Jones (Yellowknife) and Kevin Doucet (Calgary). It was a great weekend with lots of good information passed on.
  • Neil Harvey gives squash camp in Yellowknife From May 16 to May 19, internation squash coach, Neil Harvey was in Yellowknife to facilitate a squash camp for juniors, coaches and interested adult players at the Yellowknife Racquet Club.
